Adventures in Babysitting

For most girls it’s a rite of passage to become a babysitter in their teenage years. I somehow managed to completely bypass this vital stage of develop. Perhaps this is why I’m not so keen on the idea of having my own children. Last night my sister was in a bind and needed me to watch her baby…I was T.E.R.R.F.I.E.D. The evening started out at my parent’s house with the TV stuck on Spongebob. I texted my sister “how do you make spongebob go away on the tv??” She called back and said “is that a riddle?” I like jokes but I’m not really a big riddler, I really couldn’t figure out how to change the darn channel! So as we continued talking she said that I could go ahead and wipe down his little hands with a baby wipe before I put him to bed and the wipes were on the couch next to his jammies and diaper. STOP…his WHAT?! No one mentioned diaper! In all the emails outlining what I could expect no one ever mentioned diapers. Ugh.

So then it was time to get Dathan from the babysitter. The babysitter is very close to my parent’s house so I walked to pick him up but you must envision this…me with a stroller and no kid. I’m sure many people driving down the street thought I was a little loony. When we got back home Dathan just played and played and played like it was the first time he’d ever played. Apparently that’s what babies do. I figured while I was there it would be the perfect time to get some current pictures of the little dude. I followed him around to every activity around the yard. He is much more aware of the camera now and kept trying to touch my lens. Normally when I go shooting I throw all my gear in my Shootsac just in case I need to use every single lens I own. But last night I just grabbed one camera, one lens, one memory card, one battery and set off. It felt a little freeing! Please enjoy some pictures of the cutest kid on the planet. Here are the main reasons why you should never ask me to watch your kid:
*I don’t change diapers.
*I let them eat off the floor
*I will move them from their comfortable perch to one of my choosing just for the sake of “good light”
*I will call 911 every time they cough
