Guy: “You’re wearing slippers”
Me: “I’m not wearing slippers! I’m wearing Toms Shoes.”
Guy: Pause. “What?”
Me: SHOCKED!
There are people who still don’t know what Toms Shoes are?! It’s pretty much one of my favorite companies out there. If YOU still don’t know what Toms Shoes are you’re about to.
Their motto is “One for One.” For every pair of Toms Shoes purchased, they donate a NEW pair of shoes to a child in need. This I pulled straight from their website:
“Why shoes?
Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:
•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.
•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.
•Many times children can’t attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don’t have shoes, they don’t go to school. If they don’t receive an education, they don’t have the opportunity to realize their potential.”
Here’s me in my Toms waiting for our clients to arrive. We always take pics of each other while we wait for our clients to arrive (oh, and we’re always the first to arrive…we have to scope the area!). Toms gives a banner with each pair of shoes purchased which I think is adorable. I want to give all my clients banner’s that say “Amanda Rae.” I’m not sure how practical it would be, but I’m pretty gung-ho about it.
