I have a mix of readers. Some know me intimately. Some know me a little. Some hardly know me. And some have never met me. So I’m going to start sharing a little more about myself to bring everyone up to speed!

I have Invisalign.

I’ve been noticing in some of the pictures of me that it was very obvious that I have Invisalign. When I first got them in December ‘07, I thought it was blaringly obvious but everyone was shocked that I even had them and said you couldn’t tell at all. It’s definitely better than a mouth full of metal, that’s for sure!

My review of them in the year and a half or so that I have donned them is: THEY SUCK! You have to take them out every time you eat and then you have to quickly brush your teeth and return them to your teeth. This essentially eliminates snacking. When someone says “oh, just have a bite” it’s like you have no idea the work that goes into just having a bite of something!

Then, when I break the trays free from my teeth the essence of rotten egg exudes. I’m not certain why. I’ve brushed my teeth enough times since this experience began that I’m sure when it’s over I will never again need to brush my teeth (my dentist might not agree with me but I’m holding strong on my revolt against the toothbrush after this). I also brush the trays a few times a day and soak them weekly. I wouldn’t classify myself as a particularly smelly person in any regard but this experience makes me feel for those who are. It can’t be helped, it can’t be avoided. I’m surprised my husband still kisses me. I’m so ready for it to be over with already. My orthodontist is AWESOME but I tell him every time I see him how much I hate these things! I’m supposed to be done with them already but I have one tooth near the front (the same tooth that Stu loses in the Hangover) that is still slightly crooked and I didn’t go through all of this torture for it to not be perfect! Worse comes to worse I’ll have to wear metal braces for two months to get that sucker to turn already.

Really, though, the only time it’s really the worst is when I’m shooting weddings. I don’t have a lot of time throughout the day to leisurely eat and snack and then go brush my teeth and trays. And I get so hungry when I’m shooting I always wish I could just have a bite here and there to keep me going but I can’t! Arg.

Even though I whine and complain about how horrible they are, my girlfriend, Chrissy, just recently joined the Invisalign gang. It’s so nice having someone go through this with me. As they say misery loves company!!
